Cooperatives in Agriculture

Cooperatives exist to bring the best possible service, products, and benefits to their members and clients. Because of this, they strengthen the economic, social, cultural, and ecological base of the communities they operate in—bringing capital, jobs, and stability wherever they go.

The cooperative movement in Canada first gained momentum because hardworking farmers decided they needed more: more autonomy, more control, and more care for their communities. The seed of cooperatives had been around, but only sprouted and flourished with families wanting independence, stable supply and demand, and to get the most out of their product from beginning to end. Doing all of that with people they could trust made cooperatives the foundation of Canada’s agricultural industry today.

You can expect fair pay, fair prices, and a constant search to find better and more sustainable practices, with all the dependability of working with a neighbour. When you work with a cooperative, you know you’re collaborating with honest, consistent, and quality products—and the people are pretty good, too.

Built on principles that put communities first, maintain independence, and empower the producer, cooperatives ensure democratic control and keep a unique identity.

IGPC Feeds believes in the power of cooperatives, putting community first, and putting farmers first. We are proud to be part of the agriculture community.

Corn

For thousands of years, corn has been recognized as an incredible source of renewable and sustainable fuel, as well as being used to make ethanol. Yet, in the past century, even more uses for every part of the kernel have been discovered, utilized, and developed to create the thriving industry for biofuels and feed that we have today.

Whether it’s being ground, cooked with enzymes, fermented with yeast, or distilled to remove water, IGPC Feeds converts more than 1 million tonnes of corn every year.

And through the production of ethanol, we’ve generated the technology to create high-quality DDGs–nutritious feed made from fermented corn grains. This feed is rich in residual proteins, energy, minerals, vitamins, fibre, and amino acids, while also being highly digestible and an excellent source of energy.

We see corn for what it can produce with every layer because we think your grain should go further.

The power of community

IGPC Feeds wouldn’t be able to exist without the incredible people around it—and the support goes both ways.

Since the plant started in 2008, it’s hard to take Aylmer out of IGPC. Having since doubled the corn that we use, we now produce more than ⅓ of Ontario’s ethanol. We buy local corn and provide high-quality feed right back to our neighbours, so that every farm can thrive.

Our success means rural Ontario’s success. IGPC Feeds gives back to the land it’s on by supporting local sports teams, education, and businesses. Living in a town with a stable business is good for everyone and allows the community to plan with confidence what they can achieve in years to come.

We are something even more important than “perfect.” We are responsive. IGPC Feeds is constantly looking for ways to improve, whether it’s the way we communicate, intake suggestions, or create each and every one of our feeds. Everyday we try and get better at supporting and listening to our community.

As we grow, we never forget our small-town ways. Business is personal and fair, and a man is only as good as his word. From providing jobs to taking care of our corn and livestock farmers, IGPC Feeds works hard every day to make sure our community flourishes.

“Consistency is Key”

Before working with IGPC Feeds, I couldn’t control how much inventory I received. Sometimes it was too much, other times not enough. But with IGPC Feeds, it’s so consistent and I feel like I have a great business relationship with them.
